By Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten
Directed by Georgia Athearn

The Adobe Theater reopens with the 2018 season after an extensive renovation. The first show is Doublewide, Texas – by the same playwrights Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten who wrote last season’s sold-out comedy The Savannah Sipping Society.  In this hilarious, fast-paced comedy, the inhabitants of one of the smallest trailer parks in Texas—four doublewides and a shed—are thrown for a loop when they realize the nearby town of Tugaloo is determined to annex them. Friends, enemies, and neighbors realize they’ll have to work together to defeat the encroaching annexation if they—and their way of life—have a snowball’s chance to survive being swallowed up by “the big guys.” The rollicking mayhem of this flat-out funny Jones Hope Wooten comedy escalates as the residents attempt to secede from Texas, discover a traitor in their midst, and turn the tables in a surprising and side-splitting finale. So grab your Stetson and come on over to Doublewide, Texas, where life is double the fun, double the joy, and where audiences double over with laughter!

Director Georgia Athearn first became acquainted with the playwrights when she was cast in their play Mama Won’t Fly. A few weeks into rehearsals the director walked out, leaving the cast devastated. Georgia took over the direction of the play and says she “absolutely fell in love with the writing.  The dialogue, the characters and the obstacles that Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten create are pure comedy.  There are many choices of plays that theaters can choose to produce from classics to drama, but what we need at this point is more comedy and these skillful playwrights deliver it in spades.”

Athearn has assembled a top-notch group of Albuquerque and Santa Fe actors including Ruben Muller, Carolyn Wickwire, Lacey Bingham, Joel Miller, Linda Sklov, Margie Maes, Timothy Kupjack, Marianna Gallegos, and Linda Wilson (who is also designing the set).
